About Gordon

Gordon began painting full time in 2000 after retiring from the advertising business in Chicago. He graduated from The School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago then began a forty year career from studio artist to ad agency creative director. Upon retiring he resumed watercolor painting after attending evening classes at the Art Institute. Since then he has had successful one-man gallery exhibits and art shows in the midwest and east coast where his paintings have won several show and gallery awards including Best Of Show and First Prize.


He has been a featured artist on WGN-TV, WMAQ-TV, in the Chicago Tribune and area suburban newspapers. Gordon was awarded 3rd place in American Artist magazines 70th Anniversary watercolor competition for his painting "Wrigley Rainout” and was the featured painter on the cover and and story in Watercolor magazine. Two of his paintings chronicling American city life were chosen for a two year exhibit at the US Embassy in Sarajevo as part of the State Department’s Art In Embassies program.


France’s favorite painting subjects are cityscapes, urban activity and sports. His lifelong interest in sports shows up in many of his paintings and he remains an active hockey player competing in senior leagues and tournaments. He regularly attends painting workshops in the US and Europe and teaches classes, workshops, conducts painting critiques and demonstrations throughout Chicago and the midwest. Gordon's paintings hang in private and corporate collections in Italy, the UK, Canada and throughout the US. He is a member of several midwest art associations including the Transparent Watercolor Watercolor Society and the Illinois Watercolor Society. He is represented by Lucas Galleries in New York City.
